Welcome to the Champion Mindset Collective
Sean Selby is a resilience advocate whose journey, from serving an 11-year prison sentence to becoming a successful programmer, exemplifies the power of a champion mindset.
While incarcerated, he earned two diplomas with top grades and mentored fellow inmates, laying the groundwork for his transformation. Upon release, he completed a Bachelor of Business at Massey University and led a 30-person logistics and manufacturing team.
After rediscovering his passion for technology, Sean graduated from Take2’s coding boot camp and founded BetterConvo, an AI-driven app for empathetic communication.
He now mentors Māori business students and has joined Take2 as Student Success Lead, guiding others from adversity to achievement.

BetterConvo is a web app that helps people prepare for challenging conversations using empathy and AI.
It’s super easy 🤗
You enter a situation, select a feeling, and make a request. The app then generates a script to help you approach the kōrero with clarity and care.
Done! ✅
Big shoutout to Zac T. from ImpactLab for helping me prioritise high-impact changes, and to Jared Pinfold at Dev Academy and Richard Hape at Yoobee College of Creative Innovation for their insights on how to pitch, present, and respond to audience feedback - all of which I’ll been putting into practice! 🙏🏻 🙏🏻
